I had a chance to visit Magnum & Steins for the first time last night and I had an amazing experience. The food was fantastic! I had the fish soup as my appetizer...excellent, excellent dish. There was fresh mussels, shrimp, scallops, halibut and cod...definitely a must if visting Magnum & Steins. I then had the rack of lamb and it was just amazing.
Finally got to Magnum & Steins on this visit. Definitely the best restaurant in St. John's. Fine dining food in a relaxed and casual atmosphere and not over-priced.
I went to this restaurant with a bunch of girl friends and we all had a great experience. I had these garlic mashed potatoes i've dreamed of since... the tenderloin was perfect. Service was wonderful... we received our appetizer promptly and then were left alone to talk and relax and drink wine before getting our entree... never once felt rushed. At some restaurants they're putting the entree on the table 5 minutes after the appetizer and you feel like they're allready looking at how quickthey can get you out.
Excellent restaurant
My husband and myself have dinned out at many of downtown St. john's restraunts and were really looking forward to trying out this restruant after reading the reviews and hearing the buzz but I would not be able to say it is fantastic or world class compared to other experiences. The service and meal was good but not great. The atmosphere was not cozy. My husband ordered the Tenderloin and I had the striploin. He ordered medium and it was well done. Not a place we will return, just didn't feel like it was worth the money.
I was at Magnum & Steins just this week and had the tenderloin. Delicious and nothing boring about it. It was $34 and the portion size was quite large. 16oz at least.
Fabulous service and the food was outstanding. A must to visit if planning a visit to St. John's.
After reading the Nov 14/07 review I felt I needed to write my own review. Magnum & Steins is absolutely the BEST restaurant in St. John's. $36 for a 14-16 oz tenderloin is NOT over-priced. There is nothing plain about the tenderloin dish...and most people enjoy their
a steak served on a bed of mash for $36 dollars. plain and overpriced. While the decor was interesting, the service friendly the atmosphere as well as the temperature, were cold. On leaving Magnum's, I felt over charged and unimpressed.
Excellent restaurant. The best in St. John's. Portions are huge and flavours well blended, service is fantastic! You have to try it.
This is definitely a world class restaurant. The decor invites you to be casual and comfortable while the food and service is 5 star.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Everything from the food, service, and decor was fantastic.
